Introduction
The lower Zambezi is one of the biggest tourist spots in Zambia which holds landmarks to the Zambezi river, Kariba dam and its natural wildlife. CLZ also known as Conservation of Lower Zambezi is an organisation focused on the protection of wildlife and safety within the national park. For the protection of the national park's wildlife CLZ has a well trained team consisting of a foot patrol unit to scout for poachers, an aerial patrol team, and a detection and tracking dog unit which specialises in tracking of ivory and other illegal poached wildlife. CLZ is also an organisation which helps with educating kids about their projects and keeping the national park protected.
The Affect of Covid 19
|
The effect of covid 19 on elephant poaching won't be as concerning than South luangwa. In Lower Zambezi there is more security for the elephant population because of how small the park is. There is still a risk that people will turn to poaching for money and food if there is no business in tourism. CLZ does not have a program like CSL where staff are still earning small amounts of money, because of this Lower Zambezi is at a small risk of increase in elephant poaching, other than that CLZ's wildlife protection will be able to deal with poachers during this time. When you look at the financial outcome during the Covid 19 crisis you would think CLZ would be under staffed, but because of the government support and donations they will be able to hold a strong team to protect the wildlife.
